| When
we opened our pool, the water level was extremely low. Could we have a
leak? |
| In
most cases the water that was in the pool has been displaced, meaning
that the water has been pushed out due to weight accumulating on top of
your winter cover. |
| In
my spa, what is more important my bromine level or my pH level? |
| The
bromine level should be at least .5 ppm to kill bacteria, but actually
your pH reading is more important for two reasons, bather's comfort and
equipment protection. The recommended range is 7.4 - 7.8. |
| What
is Alkalinity? |
| Alkalinity
refers to the concentration of alkaline materials in the water. These
materials have the ability to buffer or control the pH level. A range
of 100 - 150 PPM should be kept at all times. |
| How
can I get rid of stains that occur in my pool over the winter? |
| You
can treat the entire pool with a chemical called Stain & Scale Preventer.
A quart is found in our Spring Chemical Kit, or it can be purchased separately.
The Stain and Scale Preventer can be purchased at our retail store or
can be delivered with a chemical order. |
| What
causes swimmers eyes to burn? |
1.
Burning eyes can be attributed to low pH, which means the water is acidic.
You would need to test the water and adjust accordingly.
2. When chlorine is added to the water it combines with organic material
and forms chloramines. High levels of chloramines can cause not only burning
eyes, but also the strong chlorine odor often associated with pool water.
In order to remove or maintain a low level of chloramines, regular shocking
with chlorine powder is needed. |
| Why
is my pool water constantly a light color of green? |
| A
light see-through green color that doesn't clear up with chlorine could
indicate copper in the water. The copper can be controlled using Stain
& Scale Preventative available in our store. |
| Can
I adjust the pH using the chemical Sodium Bicarbonate? |
| Sodium
Bicarbonate actually adjusts mainly the Alkalinity of the water. It has
little affect on pH. The proper chemical to increase pH is Sodium Carbonate,
which mainly raises the pH and has little effect on the Alkalinity. |
| Why
is my RayVac going in circles? |
| When
the RayVac travels in circles it is usually caused by the head being filled
with debris. Also the RayVac is dependent upon water pressure to move
it around, If there are major leaks in the hoses or if the first hose
coming out of the head always has a bend to it then this also can be the
cause. Note: Automatic cleaners are designed
to maintain a pool after the initial clean up. Although they will help,
often times it is necessary to manually clean the pool. |
